Marvin Gardens is pleased to present EARTHBOUND, a four-person painting exhibition featuring Paula Lawrie, Emma Kohlmann, Eliot Greenwald, and Andre Ethier. Four painters based outside of New York are brought together for this show of works examining parallel notions of depicting our natural world. This group of paintings displays a variety of plant and animal forms that seem to contain in their genesis, a memory of being based in observing nature. Yet the results create surreal depictions and settings where anthropomorphized plants and animated life-forms explore settings composed of combinations of the “natural”building blocks.The results are an affirming sense of exploring together with a sense of wonder.We scan these surreal, dreamlike scenes of not really knowing “where” we are.The title of the show implies both a grounding notion of being bound to this planet we share together, and it also suggests movement, as though we are all on a journey of discovery bound for earth. Both seem true.
