Marvin Gardens and Best Western are pleased to announce the opening of “Standard Treacle,” an exhibition of drawings on paper by New York based artist AustinEnglish. Fresh off the long awaited release of his new book Meskin and Umezo we are happy to present some of English’s most recent drawings. In 2020, Marvin Gardens exhibited works on paper comprising the first half of the book, and this week we are happy to present some of the latest sequences of the book accompanied by a suite of completely new stand-alone works.As in all of English’s work, it is narrative that drives and helps structure the imagery. At the same time, the artist’s inventive twisting and abstracting of the characters narrates a different tale of process itself. The sensitive expressive touch of the pen and pencil which are key elements of his style are built with a relentless work ethic, creating an impressive aggregate of durational labor.
